NTREIS Data Quality: What’s Changing and Where to Get Help

Beginning Nov. 1, 2026, NTREIS will take on all MLS compliance activities under the name Data Quality. The goal is accurate, complete and timely MLS data, with a consistent experience for brokers and agents across the NTREIS MLS.

MetroTex MLS staff will continue to help with everyday listing corrections. Here’s where to turn when something needs attention, how to report an issue and what to expect from the new timelines and approach to fines.

Who handles listing corrections?

For everyday corrections to status, price, remarks and other listing details, continue sending requests to MetroTex MLS staff at mls@metrotex.com. NTREIS can also help with these fixes.

MetroTex will coordinate with NTREIS on issues involving listing history, days on market and certain date changes. You can also contact dataquality@ntreis.net directly for those requests, as well as listing deletions, fraud reports, and rules or policy questions.

All correction requests must be submitted in writing with the appropriate supporting documentation. Depending on the change, that may include a listing agreement or amendment, sales contract or closing documents.

How do I report a listing issue?

To report a possible violation or inaccurate listing:

  1. Open the listing in Agent Full Display.
  2. Click the Report It icon, the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the icon row at the top.
  3. Describe the issue and submit the form. The listing, agent and office information are prefilled, so provide a specific explanation of what needs attention.

NTREIS will review the submission and determine the appropriate action. That may include:

  • Asking the listing agent or broker to make an update, typically within three business days.
  • Making the correction directly and notifying the listing agent or broker.
  • Removing prohibited information and issuing a notice.

Citation and correction notices go to both the agent and the broker or designated office manager.

What is the three-business-day standard?

Beginning Nov. 1, the deadline for listing entry and updates changes from 72 hours to three business days. Weekends and holidays do not count.

  • New listings: Enter the listing within three business days after all signatures.
  • Listing updates: Reflect any change, including status, price or terms, within three business days of the change.

There is also a correction window for routine issues. If NTREIS cannot correct the issue directly, the member gets three business days after being notified to make the correction. Serious violations may result in immediate fines without a correction window.

What belongs in public and private remarks?

Contact information belongs in private remarks, not public remarks. That includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, personal websites and URLs.

Public remarks also must not include fair housing protected references or compensation or commission information.

However, “Contact agent for more information” is acceptable in public remarks because it does not include direct contact information.

For more guidance on remarks, showing availability and listing updates, download the NTREIS Listing Do’s and Don’ts guide.

When can fines apply?

NTREIS will focus on correcting data and helping members address issues. Fines are the exception, not the default response. The timing depends on the type of violation.

Routine Issues

Late entries, outdated statuses and missed updates in the normal course of business fall into this category.

Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027, is an education period for routine issues. NTREIS will make corrections when possible or give members an opportunity to fix the issue after notification.

Fines for routine violations begin Feb. 1, 2027.

Serious Violations

Certain serious violations, described by NTREIS as “egregious,” can trigger an immediate fine beginning Nov. 1, 2026, with no correction window or grace period. Examples include:

  • Password sharing.
  • Using language prohibited under the settlement.
  • Invalid listing entry.

These exceptions are separate from everyday timing and status mistakes.

Can a citation be appealed?

Yes. Members have 14 calendar days from the citation to file an appeal.

Appeals are reviewed against defined criteria, including misapplication of a rule, a procedural error or other extenuating circumstances.

What else is changing?

Along with the three-business-day standard, the updates taking effect Nov. 1 include:

  • Non-exclusive listings: Accepted if all other NTREIS requirements are met.
  • Auction listings: A new Auction Listing field, required disclosures and the ability to search and filter for auction properties.
  • Listing images: Specific disclosure requirements for images generated by artificial intelligence or altered virtually.

The full NTREIS Rules Rewrite will be available for review in January 2027, with webinars to explain the changes. It takes effect Feb. 1, 2027.
