REALTORS® Are More Than Agents — They’re a Backbone of Community Service in North Texas
When most people think about REALTORS®, they think about home sales, contracts, negotiations, and helping families navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.
But across North Texas, REALTORS® are doing far more than facilitating real estate transactions.
Every day, REALTORS® throughout the MetroTex service area are volunteering, fundraising, mentoring, advocating, and investing time back into the communities they serve. From Dallas and Fort Worth to Denton, Collin County, Ellis County, and beyond, REALTORS® continue playing a meaningful role in strengthening neighborhoods across the region.
For many members, community service is not an occasional event, it’s part of the profession itself.
Through the MetroTex Association of REALTORS® and North Texas REALTORS® in Action, members regularly participate in volunteer projects, charitable partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and community outreach efforts that directly impact North Texas families.
These efforts support a wide range of causes, including:
- housing stability,
- neighborhood revitalization,
- homelessness outreach,
- food insecurity,
- education initiatives,
- disaster relief,
- and family support services.
Many MetroTex members also volunteer independently throughout the year by:
- serving on nonprofit boards,
- mentoring students,
- supporting local schools,
- coaching youth sports,
- organizing community drives,
- and helping local charitable organizations grow their impact.
Much of this work happens quietly and behind the scenes, but its effect on North Texas communities is significant.
Recognizing REALTORS® Making a Difference
MetroTex continues recognizing members whose commitment to service reflects the best of the REALTOR® profession.
In 2025, Jennifer Parker received the Christy Black Volunteer of the Year Award for establishing the Abigail Parker Memorial Endowment at Texas State University in honor of her late daughter. The endowment, which surpassed $26,000 in 2025, helps support future educators and will continue creating opportunities for years to come.
Marlo Dell’Aquila was also recognized with the MetroTex Community Service Award after contributing more than 300 volunteer hours supporting organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association and Dallas Pets Alive!. Her efforts have helped support Alzheimer’s awareness and research while also advancing animal rescue and adoption initiatives throughout Dallas.
These examples reflect a larger culture of service that exists throughout the MetroTex membership.
Getting Involved in Housing and Community Volunteer Efforts
REALTORS® interested in expanding their community involvement have numerous opportunities throughout the DFW region, particularly through organizations focused on housing and neighborhood support.
Organizations regularly seeking volunteers include:
- Habitat for Humanity Dallas
- Habitat for Humanity Fort Worth
- Housing Forward
Supporting REALTOR® Volunteer Days
Another important opportunity each year is REALTOR® Volunteer Days, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of REALTORS® that encourages REALTORS® across the country to dedicate time toward community service projects focused on housing, neighborhood improvement, and local impact.
REALTOR® Volunteer Days serve as a reminder that REALTORS® are uniquely positioned to strengthen communities not only through real estate, but through direct engagement and service.
In a fast-growing region like North Texas, that role becomes even more important.
As communities continue evolving, REALTORS® remain closely connected to the people, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and housing challenges shaping the future of the region. That connection naturally extends beyond transactions and into leadership, advocacy, and community involvement.
Whether it’s helping build homes, supporting local nonprofits, mentoring students, or advocating for stronger communities, REALTORS® across North Texas continue showing up in meaningful ways.
At MetroTex, that commitment to service remains one of the defining strengths of the REALTOR® community.
Because in North Texas, REALTORS® are more than market professionals.
They’re part of the community, and they’re helping it thrive.
