Q: Do I have to pay the NAR dues to stay with MetroTex?

A: MetroTex (like all other local REALTOR® associations) is part of a three-way agreement with Texas REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. REALTOR® membership with MetroTex requires membership in all three organizations.

Q: Are my annual dues tax deductible?

A: The following amounts for certain lobbying and political expenditures are not deductible for income tax purposes: 35% of NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR) dues or $55, 13% of Texas REALTORS® dues or $15, 11% of local association dues, and the $30 assessment by Texas REALTORS® for the Issues Mobilization/Political Advocacy Fund (IMPAF) are all not deductible. The remaining dues and assessment are not tax deductible as charitable contributions but may be tax deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Please consult with your tax professional for additional details.

Q: Are my annual dues refundable?

For REALTOR® members, there are several assessments as part of your dues total. These include:

• MetroTex Building Maintenance Assessment of $5

Q: If I am a REALTOR® but have an agent who does not want to be, what happens?

A: Because REALTOR® membership is driven by the broker, you will be billed for your agents’ NAR and Texas REALTOR® dues as part of the NAR dues formula.

Q: If I am not a REALTOR®, can my agents choose to be?

A: No. Because REALTOR® membership is driven by the broker, your agents can only be REALTORS® if you are.
