The Code of Ethics: A Commitment That Sets REALTORS® Apart
The Code of Ethics is more than a requirement, it’s a commitment to professionalism, accountability, fair housing and the clients and communities REALTORS® serve.
Being a REALTOR® means more than holding a real estate license. It means voluntarily committing to a higher standard of professional conduct through the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Code of Ethics.
The Code of Ethics provides a framework for how REALTORS® interact with clients, customers, the public and other real estate professionals. In a business built on relationships and trust, those standards matter. They help REALTORS® navigate challenging situations, protect their professional reputation and demonstrate a commitment to serving clients with integrity.
Stay current on your ethics requirement
NAR requires REALTOR® members to complete Code of Ethics training every three years. The current training cycle runs from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2027.
If you haven’t completed the requirement yet, there’s no reason to wait until the end of 2027. MetroTex offers several ways to satisfy the requirement, including NAR’s online training and qualifying courses available through MetroTex, Texas REALTORS® and other approved providers.

Fair Housing and Anti-Bias Training is also required
Fair Housing / Anti-Bias Training is a separate requirement from Code of Ethics training. REALTOR® members are required to complete the training when they become members and every three years thereafter, coinciding with the Code of Ethics training cycle.
The requirement began January 1, 2025, and the deadline for the current cycle is December 31, 2027. Qualified training must include at least two hours of instructional time and meet learning objectives and criteria established by NAR.
The training is an important part of REALTORS®’ commitment to providing equal professional service and helping ensure that all consumers have an opportunity to access housing without discrimination. It also gives REALTORS® an opportunity to recognize and address unconscious bias and better understand their responsibilities under fair housing principles.
For the current cycle, REALTORS® should make sure they have completed both requirements: Code of Ethics training and Fair Housing / Anti-Bias Training.
