MetroTex Offices Closed for Juneteenth

MetroTex offices will be closed Thursday, June 19 in celebration of Juneteenth and in honor of the ongoing fight for freedom. We’ll reopen Friday, June 20, ready to support you.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure the freedom of enslaved people, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

It serves as a powerful reminder of delayed justice and the continued pursuit of equality. Recognized as the longest-running African American holiday, Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.

We encourage you to take a moment to reflect, learn, and honor the meaning of this day. To explore more, visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Wishing you a meaningful and reflective Juneteenth.
