What to Do When You Get a Property Shield Alert

What is Property Shield?

  • A data security / anti‑fraud service designed for real estate professionals (agents, property managers, MLSs) across the U.S.
  • Scans online and MLS listings to detect fraudulent listings, brand impersonation, and unauthorized data use—flagging and removing them automatically.
  • Based in Atlanta, GA. Serves brokerages, MLSs, and property managers—with over 150,000 properties protected and more than $1 billion saved for buyers/renters.

Property Shield’s fraud fighting technology is activated for MetroTex MLS subscribers at no additional cost, which means you may see an email from PropertyShield.co pop up in your inbox. When that happens, it typically means fraud or misuse has been detected involving one of your listings, your personal info, or your brokerage brand. So what should you do if you receive an email from Property Shield?

  1. Review the Notification Carefully
    • What was flagged? (e.g., fake listing, impersonation, data scraping, or brand misuse)
    • Where did the fraud occur? (Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, rogue websites, etc.)
    • Property Shield will include the platform and a screenshot or link.
  2. Verify It’s Legit
    • Ensure the email or message is from PropertyShield.co (not a phishing attempt).
    • It should come from @propertyshield.co (Not from a .com, .ai, Gmail, etc.)
  3. Click the Link or Follow Instructions
    • Most alerts will include a link to view the violation report or approve takedown action.
    • You can also go to Property Shield from the MetroTex MLS dashboard. You will see your active listings and can confirm the fraudulent listing. Property Shield will proceed with removal.
  4. Approve Removal or Takedown
    • Property Shield uses automation to file DMCA takedowns, report impersonation, or request platform takedowns (e.g., Facebook, Zillow clones).
    • Approving their suggested action speeds up removal.
  5. Notify Your Broker or Office
    • Let your office manager or compliance officer know.
    • There may be broader patterns of targeting affecting other agents in your office.

Responding to Property Shield notifications is important. Fake listings can lead to renters or buyers being scammed out of deposits using your name or your actual property. The quicker you take action the less likely this will happen.
