I obtained my real estate license because … I enjoy helping and educating people. After being a teacher for several years, I wanted a career change that still allowed me to educate and help people. I chose real estate and haven’t looked back. Being a real estate agent, I’m still able to do both. I enjoy meeting new clients and showing off our wonderful community.
I improve my real estate skills by … I stay educated on the local, state and national market and what interest rates are doing. Clients value me being aware and knowledgeable on market trends and what to expect. I also stay educated on local changes including new businesses coming to town, zoning changes, infrastructure changes and local growth.

I obtained my real estate license because … I started off real estate investing and I decided to fully immerse myself in the field. I got my real estate license to work full time and learn as I worked. I wanted the ability to serve others the way my family REALTOR® helped me with my real estate investment goals.
I improve my real estate skills by … I participate in vendor hosted trainings where they provide the most recent updates on what they see in our market, new ways to work in our changing market, and especially new ways to use new technology in our field to advance our skills and efficiency. I have weekly meetings with my broker, Richard Fricks, on how I can improve on my skills and knowledge. He also helps me with learning on how to grow in our industry, not just in sales but in being more involved in our MLS committees and how I can help.

I obtained my real estate license because … As a graduate student at Texas Tech I fell in love with Real Estate when I purchased my first rental property at the age of 22. Once I moved to Dallas I began acquiring properties as rentals, leading me to obtain my real estate license in order to represent myself on transactions. After joining KW- Urban Dallas in 2016 I decided to start a team named Bray Real Estate Group. This group would go on to become Bray Real Estate Group- our now brokerage of over 130 agents across 4 different states. My passion for helping clients with not only their largest asset, but the place they call home, has grown over the past 6 years and led me to developing and growing our Brokerage to help others experience the same passion I have in this industry.
I improve my real estate skills by … I always tell our agents that the more you teach, the more you learn. As the President and Broker of Bray Real Estate Group, I have learned so much since we opened the doors in 2018. Much of that learning has happened through teaching. If there is a question that comes across my desk, if I don’t know the answer I figure out the answer, and with over 130 agents there are A LOT of questions, leading to A LOT of learning!

I obtained my real estate license because … I was a public school teacher and coach for 10 years. Although I was in the education sector, I felt like I didn’t have the time with my children that I desired and financially as a single mother felt like I would never break through the threshold that I wanted to give to my kids. But, I knew if I left the profession, I wanted to still serve people and give back. I knew I wanted to impact lives and continue being in relationship with people because that is what fills my bucket. I had never imagined myself in sales so real estate terrified me, but when I realized its more of a people business than a sales business, I decided to give it a go. It was then that I realized that this was my calling and within 14 months of obtaining my license I was successful enough to resign from my teaching profession.
I improve my real estate skills by … I care a lot about continuing education which is why I chose to invest by achieving my GRI. Aside from that, I attend as many conferences and presentations as possible, I try to stay plugged into the office and have recently been offered more teaching opportunities within my brokerage. I also strive to network with others to consistently learn and be challenged. I am also in Tom Ferry Coaching, so I have a coach and attend many of the events TF has as well. I have a mastermind group I attend every morning via Zoom and twice a week I script practice with a small group. I follow many top producing agents on social media as well to continue growing my skill set in the social media realm.

I obtained my real estate license because … From an early age I realized that providing real estate brokerage services was an optimum way to merge my desire to help others achieve their dreams and goals of home ownership – which I truly believe is the bedrock and economic engine that enables individuals and families to amass wealth for generations.
I improve my real estate skills by … Personally, and as an organization, we are committed to continual growth and expansion opportunities. We are expanding our market knowledge and presence into other cities across the Great State of Texas and out of State opportunities where we have determined the population growth is occurring.

I obtained my real estate license because … I have always had a passion for real estate and helping others. At the time I was looking for a more flexible schedule.
I improve my real estate skills by … My brokerage offers free training so I take advantage of that as much as I can. I attend two monthly meetings every month aside from the continuing education and other classes I take through my brokerage.

I obtained my real estate license because … I can honestly say that I felt the entrepreneurial bug as a child. I always knew that I wanted to help people. Real Estate is the perfect blend of both. My Grandmother was a REALTOR® in Long Island and I have fond memories of hearing her stories about the business.
I improve my real estate skills by … I plan on starting the process to get my broker’s license in the Fall.

I obtained my real estate license because … Real Estate is a privilege, both owning and investing. I was lucky enough to be brought up in a minority family who owned their home, but there were tons of people I knew or were related to who didn’t hold this luxury. I wanted to learn how to make this attainable and less scary to acquire. My passion is teaching and helping. It’s a beautiful journey and there is no place like home.
I improve my real estate skills by … I stay learning, attending trainings, networking with other leaders and on top of what is happening in the market. I believe in CMA a day, it also shows me how my client’s homes are growing in value. I build relationships with builders and attend community events to learn what is happening in different communities in the area.

I obtained my real estate license because … I decided to enter real estate to scratch an entrepreneurial itch while I completed my training as a professional counselor. I originally did not intend to make it my life’s work. What I found was an incredibly fulfilling career where I was able to help and serve people in a tangible way. I am there at the “inflection points” in the lives of my clients and I have the opportunity to meet a need or solve a problem when it matters the most to them.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am an avid reader – not a day goes by that I am not reading a book before bed and in the morning. I have recently been doing a deep dive on the hospitality industry, reading “Setting the Table” by Danny Meyer or “Excellence Wins” by Horst Schulze. My desire is learn from what other industries do best and bring that into my own business to make the client experience even better.
In addition, I am always listening to podcasts to sharpen my skills. I love listening to the likes of Tim Ferris, Brian Buffini, and “How I Built This” with Guy Raz. Through their interviews and stories I am able to incorporate new ideas or solutions that will benefit my clients.
Finally, I have formed close bonds with other agents in my office and surrounding area. I have a handful of agents that I respect highly and we are always discussing best practices and what we are seeing in the marketplace.

I obtained my real estate license because … I decided to obtain my real estate license initially, because I was encouraged by my broker to do it! I was a teacher at the time, and while I loved serving my community in that capacity, I was ready for a change. It was exciting to branch out into the world of real estate, and I’ve never looked back!
I improve my real estate skills by … Over the last few years, I’ve become an investor in real estate and have purchased and managed my own rental portfolio. I am also remodeling homes. Through the process of actively immersing myself in those activities as well, I’ve learned more about the goals of an investor which helps me understand my investor clients and serve them better. Through the remodeling projects, I’ve come to know many local contractors. Having good relationships with reputable contractors helps my home buyers, sellers, and investors as I can be helpful in connecting them with resources when they need them.

I obtained my real estate license because … As a teenager, I watched my mom transition from a stay-at-home mom to a top producing real estate agent. I remember being inspired by her hustle and efforts to build a thriving business by being a servant leader and advocating for her clients.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and knew a traditional corporate job was not in my future. What more of a rewarding path can one choose than helping others create generational wealth.
I improve my real estate skills by … As a young real estate professional, I am relentless in my pursuit of growth beyond formal education. Embracing cutting-edge strategies, I thrive in an ever-evolving industry.
Networking is my power move. I’ve forged robust connections, absorbing insights from more seasoned pros, and keeping tabs on latest trends. It empowers me to exceed client expectations.
Client feedback is also my compass for growth. Who better to expand on what skills you excel in and ones that you have an opportunity for growth.

I obtained my real estate license because … My love for unique, particularly modern architecture- along with my passion for helping people and really knowing what career path I wanted to take right out of high school in 2006 is what pushed me to get my real estate license.
I improve my real estate skills by … As hungry and eager to learn as I was when I first started my career- I now learn from my younger agents in my office who share the latest and greatest strategies, technology, marketing methods, etc that I was once on the forefront of. I learn from them, just as much as they learn from me. Also, even after all this time that I’ve spent in the business, I still lean on those that are more experienced than I. Every day is a learning experience and I will always strive to learn more.

I obtained my real estate license because … Even though I happened to follow in my family’s footsteps, I wanted to help people buy and sell real estate. Working as a REALTOR® is unlike any other career. REALTORS® have limitless earning potential, control over their schedules and can work whenever they want. I am intent on continuing to build a career in a field that I love as well as one that pays well. Also, sometimes you got to pay what you owe. I owe good citizenship to my community. I always want to be a good citizen and an asset to my community. I abide by laws, pay my taxes and vote. Beyond that, other traits associated with being a good citizen include: having respect for others and their property, knowing my rights and respecting the rights of others and being informed on the issues of the day.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am extremely fortunate to be a part of the Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program Class 31 and this amazing program is really improving my real estate skills. I will be graduating with my Class on October 13th, 2023. Also, I am dedicated to earn most if not all of the designations and certifications that are offered. The Residential Real Estate Council has two new certifications coming out in the fall. They are the Artificial Intelligence Technology certification and the Residential Real Estate Cybersecurity Protection Specialist. Additionally, I am always staying up to date with all of the new trends. For example, let’s talk about artificial intelligence. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched on November 30th, 2022. It is notable for enabling users to refine and steer a conversation toward a desired length, format, style, level of detail and language used. Most chatbots are powered by conversational AI whereas ChatGPT uses both conversational and generative AI. ChatGPT is better suited for more complex conversations and personalized applications such as generating code or content. In addition, I recently earned my Residential Mortgage Loan Originator license. Furthermore, I am a mediator, an individual arbitrator and a HUD-Approved Real Estate Broker. I was a TREC Instructor from June 1st, 2013 to August 31st, 2019.

I obtained my real estate license because … Prior to obtaining my license, I was in the hospitality management field, restaurant management. Having received my degree from Texas Tech in Hospitality Management, I worked my way up from an entry manager, to assistant general manager, ending in a corporate training position. In the end, I experienced the typical burnout from working constant 50+ hours, late nights, and hardly having two days off together. Real estate had always been a thought in the back of my mind, but the sales only aspect intimidated me. Finally after having enough, I signed up for classes, hoping to really be able to live the dream of being my own boss, and finally having some freedom and flexibility.
I improve my real estate skills by … In 2019, I gained my brokers license. I generally try to take more than that required amount of classes for renewal, and continue learning. Next year, I plan to add the ABR and SRS designations.

I obtained my real estate license because … I started my out of college career at an amazing company, climbing the corporate ladder in the hospitality industry. I was grateful for all the opportunities and growth I was given, but realized that my financial success would always be determined by someone else besides myself. So I started a side hustle business selling graphic prints on Etsy to make extra cash during my corporate career. I used my Etsy profits to purchase my first home, and as my profits selling prints turned into a 6-figure side hustle, I put that money into real estate. From single-family to multi-family, I purchased it all and renovated every single one of them. During this process of obtaining my own properties, it became my passion to get my real estate license to help others achieve their dreams of buying their homes and achieve long term success of generational wealth to pass down to their family. As soon as I passed my real estate exam, I took the leap and quit my corporate job to go all in on real estate! In the hospitality industry, I was known as the “Customer Service Queen” and I took what I knew about curating exceptional customer experiences to the real estate industry. In DFW there is a sea of agents, and it has always been my goal to go above and beyond to serve my clients, and make the process as seamless as possible, especially in 2022 when there were multiple offers to compete for in what seemed like every transaction. I knew that I would be able to be a cheerleader and use my expertise to create winning offers for my clients to help them get to their next place to call home. Having my license has allowed me to merge the two things I love most, taking care of people and helping them achieve their dreams!
I improve my real estate skills by … Real Estate in DFW is so exciting and ever changing. I keep up with city/state/federal news on the market and interest rates. With short-term rentals now not being allowed in Dallas, it’s pieces like that I need to continue to be aware of, especially for my first-time investors who are trying to build their portfolio. I listen to podcasts like Bigger Pockets, YouTube channels like Graham Stephan’s, to keep a pulse on real estate. I check in with my preferred local lender weekly to see trends that she is encountering. It is important to consistently tour homes, as well as apartments to see the latest trends, designs, and what features are helping to attract buyers/tenants. Since I manage my own rentals, I work closely with local property managers so I can continue to find unique ways to elevate experiences for current/future tenants for not just me, but to help my investor clients. Reading MetroTex trends is great to provide figures to clients, because when people find out you are a Realtor the first question you get is, “How’s the market going?”
Social media is always elevating how real estate is marketed. From TikTok to Instagram reels, which hashtags or drones/cameras to use, and video editing. Since many of my clients are from social media, I do think staying on top of these trends is helpful to improving my real estate skills for growing my business.

I obtained my real estate license because … I was not fulfilled with the career path that I was on and that I was expected to follow. I was inspired by my cousin who was crushing it in the San Antonio Real Estate Market and loving her job. I decided that I wanted to dive into real estate and open up more opportunities and challenges for myself. I found that real estate was an avenue where I could align my desire to make an impact on others with an uncapped opportunity for wealth building.
I improve my real estate skills by … I keep in close contact with my REALTOR® networks and research and attend various seminars and masterminds across the country myself and with my team. We have also begun hosting our own mastermind events where we have invited the best of real estate from all brokerages to join and speak. This has allowed us to meet some of the best personalities in the industry and learn first hand from their experiences. In addition, my team has started a side organization called Team for New Texans. This started as a passion project to bring like minded professionals together as a referral network and to learn from each other. It has since blossomed into a multi-location event, meeting monthly and incorporating nearly 50 members. Every month we meet, exchange success stories and invite a speaker to teach us something new about industry skills. I believe this has enriched the culture and success of my team and all of our strengths.

I obtained my real estate license because … I decided to pursue my real estate license because of my work in interior design, where I specialized in high-end renovations and new construction. Many of our clients were involved in buying and selling properties, often seeking our expertise to transform and optimize their spaces. It was during one particular instance when a client purchased a $10 million penthouse without seeing it firsthand and requested our input for ideas that a realization struck me. I understood the value of having a real estate license, as it would enable me to provide comprehensive turnkey services to my client, and the rest is history!
I improve my real estate skills by … I am consistently dedicated to staying informed about the local market in Dallas. I accomplish this by conducting thorough research on current listings and analyzing market trends. Additionally, I maintain strong connections with trusted REALTOR® partners in the industry, engaging in insightful conversations to share and gain valuable market insights.
To further enhance my knowledge and marketing strategies, I actively seek out information and ideas from national sources. I tap into resources and educational materials that offer a broader perspective on real estate practices and marketing techniques. I also proactively connect with accomplished REALTORS® from different key markets, learning from their experiences and successes. By continuously seeking knowledge and embracing innovative ideas, I strive to provide exceptional services and stay ahead in the dynamic real estate landscape.

I obtained my real estate license because … Long story short after my previous job didn’t pay me for three months, my father in law encouraged me to get my license. That is when I fell in love with being a REALTOR®.
Here is an article about my story.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am always looking to improve my skills and the skills of others. I improve them by attending multiple training classes each month, hiring coaches, and always seeking help from more experienced professionals.

I obtained my real estate license because … Real estate is a family business for me. Growing up in Bryan/College Station, I watched my father build and develop everything from patio homes to mixed use developments and my mother design the interior spaces to provide new and beautiful places for people in the community to live and work.
I studied accounting and finance at Texas A&M and moved to Dallas upon graduation to pursue a career in corporate finance with one of the world’s largest banks. After enjoying this for eight years, I found myself wanting to work with smaller companies and being drawn to their real estate holdings and needs.
I decided to go back to my family roots in real estate and became an entrepreneur in 2016. I began working with small local companies in DFW, helping them with financial consulting which quickly morphed into helping with real estate transactions.
I have found so much joy in connecting people with properties and believe my knowledge of finance and negotiation creates win-wins for all my clients.
I improve my real estate skills by … I joined one of the top teams at Keller Williams, the Minteer Team known for it’s personal coaching and development. Beyond real estate, we talk through personal goals, wealth creation, and building relationship. I desire to become more well-rounded, ultimately impacting more people and the metroplex with positive results and a better experience.
I’m an active member of the Bigger Pockets investor community and the Learn Land University where I network with investors from around the country and attend many online group calls, sharpening my skills following market trends, learning new formulas and investor calculations, and driving new Dallas Area business opportunities.

I obtained my real estate license because … I was looking for a change from a previous career, and wanted to recenter my professional life around building and cultivating relationships.
I improve my real estate skills by … In addition to continuing education requirements, I focus on expanding my knowledge and understanding of real estate through functional practice and questions to those involved in the industry. This is expressed through elective CE, monthly MLS meetings, reading books, consuming and creating social media content, networking with other top producing agents on a weekly, if not daily basis, sharing information about the market and what we are all experiencing in the current and ever changing market.
Regional and National organized networking events, and always popping into regional real estate offices while traveling or on vacation to cultivate a diverse referral network.
Repetition more than anything else, I believe has contributed to my understanding and proficiency in my real estate skills. Being active with finding answers to questions, learning how other agents react and respond, as well as keeping current with inventory and the data of and behind real estate is essential in cultivating ones skills in this industry to deliver the best results for our clients.

I obtained my real estate license because … After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, I spent many years working in the food and beverage industry. I relocated to Dallas for an opportunity working at a restaurant in Highland Park Village. Unfortunately, just months after my relocation the restaurant closed. I was in a tough position looking for a new restaurant or exploring the option of a new career. A very dear family friend suggested that my hospitality and customer service skills may do very well in real estate. I gave myself two months to get all the classes done and get licensed. Within 45 days I had completed the courses and shortly after passed the licensing exam.
I improve my real estate skills by … Currently I am a member of the Oak Lawn Committee, which is a neighborhood organization that reviews zoning and development cases in the Oak Lawn area that fall under the PD-193 subdistrict. Although we can not approve or disapprove projects, the city of Dallas highly regards our committees’ opinion and in most cases request the developers get our approval before going through the Planning of Zoning Commission. This knowledge has been extremely beneficial in my real estate skills. I have learned about how the city planning works, what development is coming that could impact potential buyers or sellers and also what trends are occurring in real estate.

I obtained my real estate license because … I graduated UT Austin in 2006 and went to work for an engineering company in Dallas after college thinking that would be my future. When 2008 recession happened the company I was working for had to lay off half of its employees, and I was one of those who no longer had a job. It was a big shock because I had done very well at my job, worked long hours, came in early and stayed late but was let go. The promise of a “secure job” was not that at all. At that point I decided I wanted to be my own boss.
I studied economics at UT and real estate has many applications for someone with an economics background. At the time, I did not have a positive impression of REALTORS® and when I asked around not many other people did either. There was the opportunity I saw. If I treated people right, was honest, worked hard, and served them, then I could be the go-to REALTOR® in my network.
At a time when many REALTORS® were leaving the industry I also thought it was the perfect time for me to start and build my career. I have not looked back since.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am in the process currently of obtaining my broker’s license and take the final test on July 25th. This process has taught me a lot. In addition to that, I attend 1-2 live training events each year. Whether it was the Zillow conference, local coaching or national REALTOR® events, I always try to take away several things to improve my ability to serve my clients.
In addition, I also coach/train all of our agents at our brokerage. Nothing will help you improve your knowledge on a topic than being responsible to teach it to others.
I am also a big believer in previewing homes and becoming an expert in my local market area. Each day when I get to the office I look at the Market Watch feature in the MLS to see all the new listings, under contract listings, price reductions, etc.. Going and seeing the new listings in person and then tracking the results of whether it sells quickly with multiple offers, sits for a while, has a price reduction, etc… has been invaluable throughout my career in improving my skills as a REALTOR®.

I obtained my real estate license because … When I was younger, the agent I worked with to sell my first house mentioned that I would make an excellent agent after graduating. I was starting my aerospace career and wanted an additional stream of income, so I went for it.
I improve my real estate skills by … I aim for continuing education classes that are relevant to my business and I also attend classes, seminars, and Zoom calls offered by my brokerage to stay up to date on the economy and current market conditions.

I obtained my real estate license because … I graduated from college a year early and had a family friend who had just obtained her broker’s license and was needing an assistant. Honestly, I feel like it was a God thing. I didn’t really expect to end up in real estate, but the doors kept opening, and I kept feeling like Jesus was urging me to keep going a little longer. So I did. After six months of being an assistant, I got my real estate license at 22. After a decade in the industry, I still question if I’m even good enough to be a REALTOR®, and yet, it has provided for me and my family and awarded me the opportunity to help dozens of people into homes, many of which I was handed because others didn’t want to bother with leases. So long story short, I don’t believe I decided on my own to get my real estate license. I feel I was guided to do it and I’m still exploring why God has encouraged me to become and remain a REALTOR®.
I improve my real estate skills by … I went through the Texas REALTORS® Leadership Program in 2018/2019 and drove down to San Antonio for a master’s class after hours of online education to become a certified home stager in 2019 as well. 2022 was a very challenging year. I had my first child in January, lost my mom who I was a caretaker for in July, moved into a friend’s house for one month at the beginning of September, bought the home we are now in, and moved into it at the end of September, then sold my mom’s home in October. Now that my son is in daycare and we are mostly settled through all of my mom’s affairs I am looking at getting some designations. I am particularly interested in ABR (Accredited Buyer’s Representation), TRLS (Texas Residential Leasing Specialist), and GRI (Graduate REALTOR Institue). As the world and our industry keep changing I keep searching for my place in it.

I obtained my real estate license because … When I moved to Dallas in 2008 after a hiatus from college, I found myself uncertain about my career path. While working as coffee shop manager and part-time retail employee, I realized how much I enjoyed helping others. Between that and the fact I always had a love for real estate, I decided it was time to make a change.
During the 2008 recession, I made a pivotal decision to take the journey into the real estate world. It was during this time that I realized pursuing a degree in psychology did not align with my aspirations. Since then, I have embraced this new professional path and I have not looked back.
I improve my real estate skills by … It is important to stay informed about market trends and news. I make it a priority to stay up-to-date on both the micro and macro aspects of the real estate industry. By having a solid understanding of the market, I can provide my clients with accurate and valuable insights that help them make informed decisions.
In addition to market knowledge, I recognize the significance of keeping up with lender’s practices and policies. This allows me to navigate the financing aspect of transactions effectively and ensure my clients have access to the best possible options.
Another thing is my involvement in Tom Ferry ecosystem and coaching platform. Being a part of this program has granted me exclusive insights and strategies that go beyond what many other agents have access to. The knowledge and expertise shared within this coaching community have been invaluable in helping me stay ahead of the curve, embrace innovation, and consistently deliver exceptional results for my clients.

I obtained my real estate license because … I was a teacher and taught high school band. As a band director, you work incredibly long hours, it’s not uncommon to work 70+ or 80+ hour long weeks. It was fine at first, a deep passion of mine to teach music to students in school and have a great experience in school band like I did. When my wife and I had had our third child, who was born 2 months early, it really grabbed my attention how I was not home as much as I thought I was, or really how much I would like to be. So I got my real estate license to build a career that allows me flexibility to be home way more with my family and also with less working hours than what I was doing before. I entered real estate and haven’t looked back; it has been a true blessing to me, my wife and my kiddos.
I improve my real estate skills by … I’m in several online networking groups and mastermind groups that freely share what’s going on in the market place, how great agents are adapting, and how to better serve clients. They are extremely helpful in not only helping keep up with what’s happening really quickly in the market but also gaining advice, strategies and tips on how to build a better real estate business.

I obtained my real estate license because … Real estate and brokerage have been deeply ingrained in my family for multiple generations, spanning back to the 1960s. It all started with my grandmother, a trailblazing real estate broker who founded her own company, granting her financial independence and the ability to break free from an abusive marriage. Following her footsteps, her five daughters and son also chose real estate as their career paths. Inspired by this legacy, I, as her granddaughter, obtained my real estate license in 2015.
As an interior designer, I found myself frequently working with clients and investors who had a need for real estate and transactional services. Recognizing an opportunity to diversify the value I could offer my clients, I pursued my real estate license. Not only did this decision allow me to expand my entrepreneurial endeavors, but it also provided a valuable lesson for my daughters, showing them the importance of financial independence and self-reliance in the workplace.
After spending five years under the guidance of various brokers and sales managers, acquiring invaluable knowledge and experience, I fulfilled the requirements to obtain my broker’s license. This achievement marked a significant milestone in my career. Looking ahead, my long-term goal is to establish a small, specialized brokerage that focuses on both the house and building strong relationships. Additionally, I aspire to help other women obtain their real estate licenses, sharing the wisdom and insights I have gained throughout my journey.
I improve my real estate skills by … I actively engage in networking and continuously seek mentors across various aspects of my business. Whether it’s finance, legal, design, or transactional, I am committed to having multiple conversations with subject matter experts every week. These interactions allow me to expand my knowledge and effectively apply what I learn with real day to day experiences. As a real estate broker, it is my responsibility to educate and guide my agents continually. I provide them with valuable insights on enhancing lead generation, expanding their networks and spheres of influence, and being able to also deliver and show exceptional value to their future clients.
I am constantly acquiring new skills by immersing myself in extensive reading on all facets of transactional real estate and home construction. This year, I collaborated with a mentor and investor to renovate and resell a home. While I usually renovate and resell about 3-4 houses per year with outside investors, this particular experience with a new investor provided invaluable insights into their expertise, their background from a previous career, their expectations regarding the proper house-flipping process, and the potential for future growth and collaboration.
Moreover, I am actively learning how to effectively coach the agents in my brokerage. My aim is not only to provide encouragement but also to push them to step out of their comfort zones, take risks, and acquire new skills. By fostering a learning culture, we collectively strive for continuous improvement and professional growth.

I obtained my real estate license because … I’ve always loved real estate. Even as a little girl, when I would sell school raffle tickets door to door, etc., aside from trying to sell, my next question would be “can I see your house?”. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and have a business degree from Washington University in St. Louis in Entrepreneurship. I originally was steered away from real estate given the volatility of a sales career, but I realized that that’s what attracted me to it most. I loved the idea of “sky’s the limit” and taking my business knowledge to help people make financially sound investments and build wealth, but, more importantly, find happy homes for their families. Being able to combine sales with my love of real estate and people has been a true blessing for me now and will be always.
I improve my real estate skills by … I’m very big into business to business interaction. Therefore, I attend all of the inspections that are done for my buyers so that I can learn what to look out for. From there, I’m better at showing homes because I can point out areas of concern and provide estimates for things for my buyers as they decide on a home. The same goes for any repairs that are needed in that I’ll meet with all vendors and watch their work and discuss it with them, so I know for myself in the future. Of course, there are minimum continuing education classes that are needed to keep up with your license, but if there are any beyond that seem interesting to me or are in an area where I’m weak, I always do them. Lastly, I keep up with the financial end of things by looking at interest rate data, watching Fed announcements, looking at forecasting data for the market, to ensure that I have the most recent knowledge about where the market is and is going.

I obtained my real estate license because … I fell into real estate in my Senior year of College at Auburn University when I picked up a job organizing keys for a local brokerage. My original plan was to save up money for Graduate School to become an Audiologist. That plan changed quickly, as I fell in love with the interaction of people day to day. Watching people connect with different homes for different reasons. Developing client relationships. Helping them understand what they are looking for, and making the match for what was the perfect fit. I fell in love with the whole process. In 2013, I earned my Texas Real Estate license. Working first in Houston, then in Dallas, learning the ropes from some of the top real estate agents in Texas before branching out on my own.
I improve my real estate skills by … I strive to be a constant student of the market. I make it a point to study new closings, listings, and price reductions on a daily basis. This helps me stay well-informed and prepared to address any questions and provide valuable insights to my clients. Many facets of the job are constantly changing, driven by technology and clients’ access to on-demand information and data. I actively embrace the impressive technology and resources provided by Compass. By incorporating these technologies, I can effectively communicate with clients and refine my business.
Networking with other agents in the community is also an essential aspect of my continual growth. Collaborating and building relationships with my peers allows me to stay connected to industry trends, exchange knowledge and best practices, and foster opportunities for growth and expansion.

I obtained my real estate license because … I decided to get my real estate license immediately after graduating college. I knew a lot of people in the business from my sphere and it seemed like a great field to blend my entrepreneurial spirit with the advertising degree I had just earned.
I improve my real estate skills by … To continue to improve, I’m always looking for the next thing I can offer or learn to help me serve my clients better. Whether it’s a new podcast that might educate me on new ways to market and reach audiences for my sellers I hadn’t previously thought about or making it a daily habit to have my finger on the pulse of the economy and how the market is reacting so I can give my clients timely and accurate advice, I’m always looking to learn.
Being on a team and learning from one of the best in the business has also been an invaluable way to improve. Just being in proximity to a top producer like Patty has allowed me to pick up on how she says things to clients and prospects along with seeing how hard she works.

I obtained my real estate license because … In 2014, I bought my first home with the help of a friendly agent. However, throughout the process, I often felt confused about what was happening and what I should do next. As someone who used to work as a teacher and administrator, I realized how important it is for buyers and sellers to fully understand the complexities of real estate transactions – which are likely to be among the biggest and most significant transactions of their lives. This realization led me to become a real estate agent, initially focusing on helping friends and family navigate the process. However, I quickly fell in love with the work and now strive to help as many people as I can achieve their real estate goals with confidence and understanding.
I improve my real estate skills by … In addition to continuing education, I am constantly working to improve my real estate skills through a variety of methods. One of the most important ways I do this is by seeking feedback from my clients and colleagues. I always ask my clients for feedback on their experience working with me, so I can learn what I did well and identify areas where I can improve. Similarly, I value the input of my colleagues and regularly seek out advice and guidance from those who have more experience in certain areas.
Another way I am improving my skills is by staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technology in the real estate industry. I subscribe to industry publications and attend conferences and workshops to learn about new tools, best practices, and emerging trends. This allows me to offer my clients the most advanced and innovative services available.
Finally, I believe that practice makes perfect, so I am always looking for opportunities to hone my skills through hands-on experience. Whether it’s practicing my negotiating skills, mastering new marketing techniques, or simply getting better at listening and communicating with clients, I am always looking for ways to improve and provide the best possible service to my clients.

I obtained my real estate license because … After a brief period of working for a corporation and then working with a buyers agent to purchase my first home, I decided that it was something that I could do and could contribute to helping people find the home that was right for them. Immediately after starting out, it was clear that my niche was investment real estate. It was through this sub-specialty that I developed a name for myself and have helped hundreds of people start, continue, and grow their real estate investment portfolio. The idea that not only could I help people create an investment portfolio but also go a step further and help communities grow through affordable housing was what has continued to motivate me through today.
I improve my real estate skills by … Through reading each and every article/publication that I can get my hands on. Real estate is ever changing and that is especially true in the investment real estate industry. No matter how insignificant something can seem you can learn from each and every written word published on the topic of real estate.

I obtained my real estate license because … I was working for a family-owned business and was tired of the static growth. My dad was comfortable with where the company was, and I wanted to grow and build something special. He and I did not see eye to eye on that so I decided to get into real estate. I was always passionate about helping people, sales, building, and everything this industry encompasses. I have learned a lot over the last 8 years and am truly grateful for where I am in life and my community. I feel blessed.

I have enrolled in numerous corporate relocation classes with Anywhere Real Estate (formerly Realogy). I have learned that you must learn daily to grow. Ultimately I would like to get involved on a State Level for REALTORS® with TR.

I obtained my real estate license because … Real estate is where I was happiest. In my early career I was given the opportunity to learn all about the real estate industry from a broker and developer as their executive assistant. From graphic design to web development to office management. I took on as many responsibilities I could hoping one day it would pay off. The Great Recession put my real estate career on hold and I focused on graphics and web design freelancing. I wanted to get back on track with my real estate career and joined the military later in life in order to secure funding to earn a graduate degree. I graduated from UT Austin with a masters in technology commercialization and was discharged from the army a few months later. When I asked myself what success looks like for me, the only currency that mattered was happiness. I was happiest in real estate. I understand our industry in a way many others do not because I came up on the office side of a brokerage and was finally able to do it all for myself after selflessly serving others.
I improve my real estate skills by … I earned my BA while working as an executive assistant for a broker developer. My projects for all my graphic design and web development courses were published by my employer. During lockdown I beefed up my office technology and sharpened my skills while developing several brands I operate today. Continued learning is crucial. Technology moves fast, and one does not know what one does not know. Continued learning, not to be mistaken with continued education, is the key to my success.
Nothing quite improves ones contract and negotiation skills quite like practicing real estate. As I got more deals under my belt I began organizing and streamlining processes and created ways of conducting business more elegantly. Organization and streamlining business tasks elevates ones skills by reducing error and increasing speed. Part of work-life balance is having a balanced work life.

I obtained my real estate license because … As a kid growing up in Mexico, my parents were business owners. They always helped people, and I got to learn first hand customer service skills. Once I moved to the US and noticed the struggle of buying a house and how much paperwork and things you have to know to make this happen (and in another language!) I decided to give real estate a shot, and I’ve learned many things that I am always happy to share with all my clients.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am trying to stay very active with my brokerage, with my MLS and with my local community. I love being part of committees at MetroTex.

I obtained my real estate license because … I worked for a general contractor and realized the ability for me to see past walls, windows, placement of space and how to maximize the potential of a home — what it could be, what it wanted to be. I saw opportunity for taking my knowledge of design and quality in the fashion world and translating that into a quality of materials and design. I was self-employed starting at 15. I was a model and I loved being self-managed and self-motivated. I wanted to be able to continue with my entrepreneurial spirit and approach to business — so, when I had the opportunity to learn under one of Sotheby’s top agents as a full time assistant, starting in 2014, I took it. She really taught me the ropes and taught me in a way that would allow me to one day go out on my own. She treated me as her equal, which inspired me to want to offer that to someone myself one day.
I improve my real estate skills by … By working every day at it! I’m taking credit courses at Dallas College (previously known as Dallas County Community College), to earn the certification of residential project management. I read lots of articles about and communicate with tradespersons regarding their industries, costs, what they’re seeing and how they’re being affected by changes in city codes, energy-code regulations, etc. I devour articles by the Dallas Business Journal, The Real Deal, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Bisnow and more. I use special apps to help simplify tasks, not only to make myself more efficient but also to make my clients’ lives a little less stressful during the homebuying and selling processes. I check the market and the MLS sales every day, to see what has sold or what has come on the market, so that I’m able to readily provide my clients, both new and old, with insight. More unconventionally, I have obtained my 200-hour, yoga-teacher training certification and I am currently teaching community classes at a studio — which is a constant reminder to be present with those I’m around, to give them my undivided attention. Yoga has also helped me slow down mentally, and to pay attention to all the unspoken and less-obvious details. The calmness that I’ve gained has helped my clients feel more calm around me, especially because of all the perspective and positive thinking I can share with them.

I obtained my real estate license because … Taylor’s passion for architecture, design, and real estate began in his childhood years in Brenham, Texas. Growing up in a family of custom home builders, Taylor played sidekick to his dad, learning every facet of quality home construction and remodeling. This early exposure ignited his interest in the industry and paved the way for his successful career.
After attending the University of Houston and earning a degree in Biomedical Technology, Taylor returned to his family’s business and helped expand it into the Houston market by buying vacant lots and building new homes. This experience ultimately inspired him to obtain his real estate license, and he has been successfully marketing and selling homes ever since.
Taylor and his business partner, Sid Thom, established the Pressley + Matthews Team at Ebby Halliday REALTORS® based on their shared values and dedication to excellence. The team is committed to maintaining a culture of professionalism, integrity, and innovation. Taylor’s expertise and dedication have earned him several accolades, including being named one of the Top 11 Texas REALTORS® to Watch in 2017, being named the MetroTex REALTOR® of the Year in 2019, and being voted Favorite Residential Real Estate Broker by Addison Magazine Readers.
In addition to his dedication to the industry, Taylor is committed to continually improving his skills and knowledge in order to better serve his clients. I obtained my real estate license because … I chose to obtain my real estate license because the real estate industry provides the perfect growth opportunity for someone like me with an entrepreneurial spirit. With a background in Customer Service and Sales, a real estate license allows me to serve people; strategically coordinate transactions; and provides unlimited opportunities for personal and business growth. As a self-starter, I am driven by the challenge of building a business without limitations.
I improve my real estate skills by … I am continually improving my real estate skills by actively seeking and completing a variety of real estate transactions ranging from undeveloped land to residential and commercial properties.
